This volume is dedicated to Luci d'Artista, the City of Turin's public art project, which was born in 1998 out of the conviction that contemporary art should contribute to the common good and inhabit the city's streets, squares and buildings. Today Luci d'artista is a collection of thirty-six works of light that transform the city into an open-air museum every year at night. Published on the occasion of the project's twenty-fifth anniversary, the book reconstructs its history, from the installation of the first works to what today appears as a unique museum: bright and nocturnal, fully accessible and capable of showing a new urban landscape.
In the pages of the book, the essay section offers a reflection on the program's special features, through the perspectives of cultural management and public policy, art history and public art, communication and educational practices. An anthology of texts, restores voice to Fiorenzo Alfieri, the visionary alderman who conceived the project, to whom the volume is dedicated. Luci d'Artista. An Open-Air Museum is a book that offers a rich visual journey punctuated by more than one hundred color images, accompanied and deepened by the fact sheets of the thirty-six light works, presented in a chronology that extends from 1998 to 2022.
