The protean universe of an artist in his diary-book
“Michele Ketoff's diary-books, of which I have only browsed these few, were enough to make me enter into his protean universe. His drawing on paper of a large, black notepad as rigid as a book is above all a creative act, an investigation of himself and others. It seems a dogged piece of work aimed at entering his own imagination and that of others. He gives shape to some images in bewildering colours, while others are like silent, remote expanses. Ketoff's drawn, indeed painted, diaries mark and speak of his time, which does not fly away but runs/passes; they describe the actions of his days and long, intense nights. Here too, as with Klee, knowledge of the Subject does not seem to have priority over knowledge of the Object. Ketoff digs deep furrows and calls forth echoes of shapes and signs; sometimes grotesque worlds appear, as if from an explosion, sometimes single-colour pages with just sequences of points, of silence, of inner detachment, of quietness.
