The last travelogue of a free-spirited saboteur, an instinctive de-constructor
Roberto Biscaretti di Ruffia is a mad genius, an artist who uses words and images to trap facts, feelings, anecdotes and micro-stories within an imaginary porthole. The circular form to which the title alludes is recurring: The O of Obla. O like a porthole, an opening through which the eye gains access to a real and sensitive world. Compared to the previous collection, Photolyricon (Allemandi, 2012), this displays a more mature and thoughtful phase in the conception of images and verse: from Renaissance calligraphy to visual poetry, where Biscaretti's passion for the vertiginous analogies unleashed by the lyrics put to music (and vice versa) by Paolo Conte - another 20th-century enthusiast who gave birth to futurism - comes to the surface. From elegy to satire, from irony to erotic compositions: anagrams, cryptograms, sometimes rebus, puns, free thought associations, onomatopoeia.
