How a museum becomes timeless with a series of “ad personam” rooms
“All art has been contemporary”: these words form the illuminated installation by Maurizio Nannucci on the façade of Turin's Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea (GAM). All art is contemporary at the moment in which it is exhibited, in which the public is viewing it. This is the underlying principle on which the display in the GAM has been rearranged every two years by its director Eccher with the aim of making its enjoyment as “open” as possible, and to enhance the contact between visitor and artwork, so that can recognise, in their own inner aesthetic and emotional everyone language, the inspiration and the message of the various artists intentionally placed side-by-side. In this conception, the art no longer follows a historical-temporal dimension, but rather the human dimension of non-linear perception, so as to make historically heterogeneous symbols and meanings contemporary and current at the moment in which they are perceived.
